Hello my name is Mark Boyle and
welcome to our website about the picturesque Marske, Redcar and Saltburn. I'm
originally from Scotland and moved down to this part of the world
several years ago and live with my wife in Marske by the Sea.
The first thing that struck
me about Marske was the wonderful beach it has and that six mile
stretch of glorious sand from Saltburn to Redcar which I don't think
is fully appreciated by some folk.
Nearby Saltburn has lots of
character buildings and is more commercial than Marske due to the
Promenade and shops, the pier with an amusement arcade and the wonderful
chair lift.
Redcar is the busiest of all
three and has the largest population. It has two large supermarkets, a busy high street with
lots of shops and quite a few of the £1 variety,
restaurants and bars and has a large promenade with cafes and quite
a few amusement arcades.
The two main employers of the
past were in the steel and chemical sectors, but sadly the order
books with both industries are quite thin and the outlook isn't any
better. The future for the area will probably be more office and
retail based and unfortunately much less on the manufacturing side.
Who would have thought that twenty years ago!
Hopefully the future for young
people will get better and that, new industries will appear and this
part of Teesside will prosper once again.
